Drafting

I've never been one to deluge my interests into the dull NFL Draft because no matter how well the players performed in college it doesn't guarantee they will produce the same in the pros.

The only guarantee in a draft is it tastes much better cold. Mmmm beer...

I still have a few thoughts about this year's draft, though, and it's mostly about my Steelers.

I like Pittsburgh's picks, I guess we can call them Picksburgh's for short, but I wish they would have taken Rey Maualuga when they had the chance. Nothing against the guy they picked instead, Evander "Ziggy" Hood, I like him too but how cool would it be to have Troy Polamalu, another former stand out USC linebacker, and Maualuga on the same field?!

We'll still get to see them on the same field atleast twice a year because Maualuga went to the arch-rival basement dwelling "Bungals", but I wanted him in Gold and Black.




The Steelers' theme song could have been The legendary Cowsills song "Hair". The long-locked duo would have put a whole new meaning to the term "lock down defender".

I know the Steelers don't need linebackers, but really they don't need anything. Maybe a receiver to replace "Great" Nate Washington, maybe some more depth to their offensive and defensive lines and to their defensive backs, which they did.

Well, enough analysis because honestly who cares? You can't tell anything until these guys have actually played in the league.

Mel Kiper does a great job being the psychic of the National Football League, but when's the last time a psychic's fortune was accurate? Last thing I remember about a psychic is Cleo going to jail...I guess she didn't predict that one.

The predictions turn into projections and no matter how long each team is allowed to pick, whether it be 15 minutes in the first round or if they cut it down as they have in recent years, the only time to grade the projections is when the projects get a chance to project their talents on the field.

The field of picks this year was slim in my opinion, but a few were intriguing.

First, Pat White to the Dolphins. He's a perfect fit for the Wildcat formation and is by far the fastest "White" guy I've ever seen.

Then there's the Cardinals selecting Chris "Beanie" Wells. Now they have three big time running backs in Edgerrin James, Tim Hightower, and Beanie. Look for Anquan Boldin and the Edge to be in a big time trade some time soon.

Also Percy Harvin still was a first round pick going to the Vikings, even though critics were predicting "Pothead Percy" to fall. The Minnesota management saw his talent as worth the risk of him smoking weed. Needless to say, most people didn't think he would go that high. I mean that high in the draft! I do wonder if his eyes were red, though. Either way he's another target for a team that needs as much help as they can get in the passing game.

The last is the Jets taking Mark Sanchez. I already didn't like the guy because he went to USC and was covered by ESPN constantly, way more then the #1 overall pick Matthew Stafford. Now he's with the obnoxious Jets fans. What a perfect scenario.

Alright, time for me to get back to my draft. Mmmmm...
