Heat's P.A. Attempts Voice Over

The Miami Heat’s Public Address Announcer, Michael Baiamonte, is one of the best in the league.

He’s one of those few guys that you can always hear loud and clear during broadcasts on television even during the play by play commentary.

His saying, “Two minutes, dos minutos” is a big hit with the crowd.

The Miami Heat’s flagship station, 560 WQAM, plays a commercial featuring Baiamonte for the local Duffy’s Sports Grill.

It might not be his fault, but his voice over is definitely not the same quality as his PA. In fact, it’s one of the worst commercials currently on radio. It’s even in the running with those obnoxious 411 pain commercials. Yes, it’s that bad. When you hear it, you'll know it.

He says all of his catch phrases, but slower and not as loud making it sound half hearted. He tames the sayings down so much that it sounds like he’s performing the commercial in a library.

Even if Baiamonte used his pipes the same as during game time at the Triple A it still would sound too gimmicky.

Commercials need no extra gimmicks as they nearly all end in the company’s slogan.

But I suppose it did the job because it sure is memorable.

Michael Irvin's Portrayal of Tony Sparano

Today on 560 WQAM's The Michael Irvin Show, Irvin started off with a skit portraying Tony Sparano's break up with the Miami Dolphins.

It was a good metaphor in the sense of an ex-partner going off with the enemy, but it made the Dolphins seem like a man that had done no wrong.

The act placed Sparano as a woman who used to tell the Dolphins (the man of the relationship) and their friends (the fans) how much she disliked the Jets (the enemy/ man she really wanted) only to run off with them right after their relationship ended.

Sure, Sparano is guilty of trash talking in an attempt to fire up the fans about facing their rival Jets. But even Dolphin lifer Jason Taylor went to the dark side in similar fashion. It's just the nature of the business, so don't blame Sparano.

And when you consider the
Dolphins (remember they are meant to be the man of this relationship) flirted with the new hot girl, Jim Harbaugh, you really can't blame Tony.

You see, the Dolphins attempted to replace their old lady Sparano with a younger, hotter model only to realize that girl had someone better in mind, the San Francisco 49ers.

That in turn caused the Dolphins to come back home and come clean with their woman about the flirting.

Sparano then forgave the Dolphins, who stayed with him, only for the 'Phins to break up with Tony in the near future.

So of course the woman (Sparano) is going to go off with the well-known rival she trashed (the Jets) out of spite after going through that roller coaster relationship.

The Dolphins did Sparano wrong, so don't get mad at Tony 'Phins fans. In fact you should be happy because now the Jets offense will continue to be of the three yards with a cloud of dust, dink and dunk variety, while your offense may open up under a new staff.

Conan O'Brien's Take on Tim Tebow's Mile High Miracle

The Pittsburgh Steelers had Bob Seger's "Get out of Denver" song playing in their head as they walked off the field after the Mile High Miracle Sunday night.

Everyone was talking about Tim Tebow’s pass that beat the Pittsburgh Steelers yesterday, including late night show host Conan O’Brien. Big 105.9’s The Paul and Young Ron Show played last night’s clip during their final segment this morning.

I intended to show the clip, but it has already been removed from the internet due to Copyright reasons, so I'll quote instead.

Conan said, “Tim Tebow completed an 80 yard touchdown pass to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers.” (Cheers from the crowd.) “After his previous three losses, Jesus put $5,000 on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Somewhere there was a pissed off Jesus. Dad damnit!”

Thanks, Conan, for making this Steelers fan laugh for the first time since that pass. The pass that so conveniently put Tebow’s game passing yardage total at 316 yards as John Elway watched on the sideline. John 3:16… ooooof course.

The New Format

With a new year comes a new format for this Edwin The Bear blog.

After a couple week break from the blog during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays I feel it is time for a new format in an attempt to bring in more of a constant and concentrated audience.

The target is to bring my own perspective to the most interesting topic on one of the various radio stations I listen to on a daily basis throughout the weekdays.

Nearly every weekday at work I sit at my desk and listen to hours of mainly sports radio talk shows that help me to get through my normal work day. If you have any shows (sports or not) worth listening to feel free to let me know by contacting me at edwin.bear@yahoo.com.

It appears to be a natural fit for me to write about what I listen to all day while bringing you, the audience, topics from some of the top personalities in the business that you may otherwise never get to hear.

The purpose is to write more blogs consistently while at the same time generating more profit from this website from the constant traffic of the target audience.

On non-normal workdays I will bring stories about my personal experiences, i.e. FAU P.A. announcing, with the occasional opinion about a smaller, less nationally covered topic.

This idea of changing the blog’s format came from the juggling of formats in the sports radio markets. Every year shows get moved to different time slots or dropped all together with most of the time the personalities showing up on other local or syndicated stations soon after. Without change there can’t be growth.

Another reason that sparked the idea is a representative from promotion-onweb.com contacted me about paying for an advertisement to be displayed on my blog. We went back and forth, the deal never formulated, but the offer made me realize that there is an audience for this blog that can be built on and generate revenue.

On the way is an advertising business that I will start in the very near future that will be displayed throughout this blog in the weeks to come as well. If you are looking to advertise in any fashion feel free to contact me as well.

Catch you here tomorrow.

Tim Tebow; Under the Weather

If you're a betting man, here's the most sure bet of the day.

Take the Buffalo Bills (+2.5) to not only cover, but win outright over the visiting Denver Tebows, I mean Broncos.

Sure, the Bills are on a seven game losing streak, but this will be the coldest game Tim Tebow has ever played in. Not to mention the Broncos running back, Wills McGahee, is nursing injuries (like always) and is also a Florida boy him self.

Anyone that knows Florida Gators football knows they don't travel very far for their road games, so a football game with 30 degree weather has never happened for Tebow.

Expect a defensive struggle where not even the savior him self will be able to pull out this eve of Christmas Day miracle.

By the way, doesn't it feels a little sacrilegious to bet on a game that Tebow is playing in on the day before Christmas?
