NFL Predictions

Season Spreads: 40-28

Season Winners: 50-18

Cleveland (+13) at Chicago: Take the Bears to cover. Chicago plays great at home and the Browns play terrible everywhere.

Giants (-1) at Eagles: The Giants are struggling and playing in Philly is never easy. The Eagles take this divisional game giving New York a three game losing streak after winning their first five.

Minnesota (+3) at Green Bay: This game won't be about the two quarterbacks. It will be about the Vikings defensive line blowing past the Packers depleted offensive line all day long.

Can't Pick These

Houston (-3) at Buffalo: It's starting to get cold outside. I don't know how the Texans will react.

Seattle (+9) at Dallas: Neither of these teams play consistent.

St. Louis (+4) at Detroit: Those UFL games are more exciting than this one.

Denver (+3) at Baltimore: The Ravens have the talent to win but haven't won a game in a month. Ray Lewis will get his team pumped to prove themselves but it might not be enough.

San Francisco (+13) at Indianapolis: Too high of a spread. The 49ers are a good team but don't know how to win.

Dolphins (+3) at Jets: A lot of running all game from both these teams. The winner depends on how well the Jets defend Chad Henne's passing and how well the Dolphins rookie corner's defend Dirty Sanchez.

Jacksonville (+3) at Tennessee: The Titans have failed me every time I've picked them this season. I think they'll win but I wouldn't bet on it.

Oakland (+17) at San Diego: The Chargers have the capability of covering the spread but that's too high for a team that decides to play hard just half the time.

Carolina (+10) at Arizona: These are the types of games Arizona loses.

College Football Predictions

Picking Spreads: 13-15

Picking Winners: 18-10

#8 Cincinnati (-15) at Syracuse: Cincinnati will win but won't cover the spread. Syracuse has struggled this year but will be physicked up playing at home with an opportunity to ruin a conference rival's undefeated season.

#12 Penn State (-17) at Northwestern: Penn State will win but won't cover the spread. Northwestern is a good team that has lost three close games. With a chance at moving ahead of Penn State in the conference with a win Northwestern will come out strong and make this close.

Games To Watch

#23 West Virginia at South Florida: Under the Friday night lights this one will be much better than any local high school game. West Virginia looks to stay unbeaten in conference while USF tries to regain some confidence by snapping their two game losing streak after winning their first five games.

#25 Ole Miss at Auburn: Pride's at stake between two great teams and two great programs that just couldn't survive the hardknock SEC.

Georgia vs. #1 Florida: The largest tailgate party in the... oh wait, they can't call it that anymore. Let's see if Florida can survive another week against another quality team. This game's always a great watch.

#19 Miami at Wake Forest: It will be interesting to see how the Hurricanes will respond to last weeks heartbreaking loss.

#22 South Carolina at Tennessee: Is it even a question that the SEC is the best conference? Tennessee shows up to play against ranked teams. This one will be a hard hitting close battle.

#3 Texas at #14 Oklahoma State: It's all on the line for the Longhorns in what will be their biggest test on the way to the national championship game. If OSU wins and USC losses the BCS rankings will be exposed for all it's flaws.

#5 USC at #10 Oregon: Game of the year. Enough said.

What I Learned This Week

- The Steel Curtain Defense is back.

- The Bears only play good at Soldier Field.

- The Dolphins are a decent receiving core away from being a great team. They must have the worst receivers in the league all on the same team. Ted Ginn Jr. is the JaMarccus Russel of receiving.

- The Redskins really are that bad.

What I Learned This Week

- The SEC is by far the best conference.

- The ACC and Big East conferences are much better than I expected.

- Clemson’s C.J. Spiller is a bigger, stronger Marshal Faulk when he was in his prime. He’s quick, shifty, and can lower his shoulder to pound the defense as well as catch anything thrown his way. Spiller would be a great NFL running back right now and I truly believe he will be one of the best ever receiving running backs.

- Tim Tebow hasn’t been the same since his concussion.

- There is no shot for an undefeated Cincinnati, TCU, or Boise State to make the national championship game.

o Even with TCU playing at ranked BYU, which beat Oklahoma this year, and moliwhopping them 38-7 they’re still behind one loss US freakin C.

o Boise State flies all the way to Hawaii, wins 54-9 and are rewarded by going from #4 in the nation to #7. Aaah the BCS makes so much sense.

- The BCS system is set up so USC will have a chance at the nation championship game every year no matter how many times they lose. How are they ahead of three unbeaten teams when the Trojans lost to Washington, who’s not even ranked, and USC barely beat over rated two-loss Ohio State?!! No wonder they’re called the Trojans, they’re always protected no matter how much they fu** up and they fu** all the other teams that deserve better!!

- College football needs playoffs! Playoffs, you talking about playoffs?! Yes playoffs! Wasn’t it evident when Boise State beat Oklahoma that every school no matter what conference they’re in deserves a fair shot at a national championship? Every conference champion deserves to make the playoffs, plus the top ten ranked teams that don't win their conference title. That whole month break between the regular season and the bowl games would be the perfect time. More games equals more money and happier fans. You can even keep playing all the unnecessary unwatchable other bowl games. It’s a win win win, what’s taking so long to figure this out?!

NFL Predictions

Picking Spreads: 38-26

Picking Winners: 48-16

Colts (-13) at Rams: I’ll take Indy to cover the 13 point spread. Way to go out on a limb on this one right?! Well the spread’s high and road games in the NFL are never easy. With that said, Peyton Manning will make it look easy, especially on the turf in St. Louis.

Pats (-15) at Bucs: Usually a 15 point spread would be too high for me to take, but not when it’s the Patriots. Why do people hate New England so much? Because they run up the score and I think they’ll be looking to put on a show for the fans in London. Yea that’s right, this game is being played in London. It’s yet another publicity stunt that the NFL doesn’t need to try.

Falcons (+4) at Cowboys: Give me Atlanta winning the game. The Cowboys are picked to win by four somehow, I guess it’s because they’re at home. Atlanta’s balanced offense will dominate the soft Dallas defense.

Eagles (-7) at Redskins: I’m calling it right now! Washington is winning this game. All that press coverage about how bad the Redskins are this year and how Jim Zorn doesn’t know what he’s doing will quiet down after they make Philadelphia look foolish. Philly will come out running more this week after their unbalanced performance last week and that will play right into the Redskins’ defensive scheme giving them confidence in the limelight on Monday Night Football. Blitz blitz blitz McNab until he becomes Dizzy Donovan from being flung and spun around so much. Washington’s offense won’t look great with the new play calling, but it will do just enough to win.

Games I’m Not Picking

San Diego (-5) at Kansas City: The Chargers should win but they’re playing soft and Kansas City is one of the toughest places to play in the league.

Chicago (+1) at Cincinnati: This will come down to Cutler vs. Palmer in the fourth quarter. Whoever doesn’t make the big mistake at the end will win.

Green Bay ( -9) at Cleveland: The Charlie Browns could play good at home, maybe. They used to, sometimes.

Minnesota (+4) at Pittsburgh: Two Hall of Fame quarterbacks in action. Both teams have played great in the first half and let teams back in it towards the end of the game. Whichever team can put a complete game together comes out on top.

49ers (+3) at Texans: The battle of the inconsistents.

Jets (-6) at Raiders: Sanchez returns to Cali so there will be better weather for him to throw in, however I have a feeling Oakland will put together a win I’m just not willing to put my confidence in the Raiders.

Bills (+7) at Panthers: Two bad teams that have talent to be much better. I could see Buffalo winning this game or making it close, but you never know with the Bills.

Saints (-6) at Dolphins: Miami will try to run the ball down NO’s throats to keep the Saints offense off the field. It didn’t work against the Colts but it’s the only chance the Dolphins have at winning.

Cardinals(+7) at Giants: Arizona’s playing much better but tend to not show up some weeks. The Giants asses still might be red after that spanking the Saints gave them last week and they’re looking to rebound.

College Football Predictions

Picking Spreads: 10-15

Picking Winners- 15-10

#12 Georgia Tech (6-1) at Virginia (3-3): GT will cover the five point spread. Virginia can’t contain the Yellow Jackets running attack. Virginia lost their first three games but won their last three. The winning streak ends and Virginia’s inconsistent play continues.

South Florida (5-1) at #20Pittsburgh (6-1): Pitt will cover the seven point spread at home. Pittsburgh is tough this year and would be undefeated if it weren’t for a midseason loss at North Carolina State. USF is coming off a whooping at home against Cincinnati and last year after they lost their first game they fell apart. Also this is a conference game and USF is only a .500 team in conference over the last three years.

#1 Florida (6-0) at Mississippi State (3-4): Florida’s going to win, but they won’t cover the 23 point spread. MSU’s losses all came to teams either ranked or that were ranked at some point this year (LSU, Auburn, Houston, and Georgia Tech) and none of the games were blow outs. Add that to Florida’s injuries on defense and the lack of explosiveness from their offense and this one could get interesting.

Games To Watch

Boston College (5-2) at Notre Dame (4-2): Remember when this game used to mean something? Now all it means is if the Fighting Irish lose Charlie Weis will get mashed by the media.

#13Penn State (6-1) at Michigan (5-2): The Wolverines fan base won’t be happy with another loss even with the win against Notre Dame under their belt.

UCLA (3-3) at Arizona (4-2): Arizona is what UCLA was supposed to be this year before they lost their last three. This is the last chance for the Bruins to redeem their season.

#6Iowa (7-0) at Michigan State (4-3): Iowa needs to watch the movie 300 and throw everything at the Spartans like the Persians did in order to defeat the squad that loves being the underdog. Every game is a must win for Iowa if they hope to make the national championship game.

#8TCU (6-0) at #16BYU (6-1): TCU needs to win and win big if they hope to jump any of the school’s in front of them and somehow convince the voters and the BCS polls that they belong in the national title game. This is one of only two games TCU plays against ranked schools this season.

NFL Results

Picking Spreads: 2-1

Season Spreads: 38-26

Picking Winners: 3-0

Season Winners: 48-16

What I Learned This Week

- The reason Philadelphia can never win a Super Bowl is because they have a couple of morons in leadership positions.

1. Andy Reid- A few games every season he forgets to call running plays and Philly loses to a terrible team because of their unbalanced offense.

2. Donovan McNab- He’s the dumbest player in the NFL. Last year Donovan didn’t know that football games can end in ties and Sunday he tried to take a fourth time out at the end of the first half. You only get three time outs per half idiot!! How long have you been playing and getting paid millions to know these things and focus during games?! Even Michael Vick knows better than to do some of the stuff McNab pulls.

- The reason the Titans are so bad this year is they’re cursed by the Steelers Terrible Towels after Lendale White stomped on one last season.

- Something to watch is how California boy Mark Sanchez adapts to throwing in the cold windy weather of New York. So far it isn’t going very well.

What I Learned This Week

- I’m not very good at picking college football spreads.

- Oklahoma would be undefeated with a healthy Sam Bradford.

- Ohio State needs a better passing attack.

- Florida is not far and away the best team in the nation like most people thought before the season started.

- Virginia Tech blows out Miami, Miami blows out Georgia Tech, Georgia Tech beats Virginia Tech. Every team won at home and it’s impossible to decide which team is best. Well, maybe not, somehow the BCS poll calculated their rankings.

- Alabama is the most dominant team thus far but somehow are ranked behind the Gators who narrowly won this weekend.

NFL Predictions

Picking Spreds: 36-25

Picking Winners: 45-16

Cleveland at Pittsburgh: A 14 point spread?! I know the Browns are bad but there’s two things guaranteed when they play the Steelers. One, there will be at least one fight and two, the game will be close. These teams hate each other and always play tough against one another. Every game the Steelers played this season they find a way to let the other team make it close, or let the other team beat them. Pittsburgh wins but don’t take the spread.

Detroit at Green Bay: Another 14 point spread?! Same thing goes here when these two teams meet as when the Steelers and Browns play. Add the rivalry factor to the fact the Lions are much better this year and this game screams to take the under. Packers win but don’t cover the 14 point spread.

Chicago at Atlanta: The Bears are the least talked about great team in the league but the Falcons may be the best team in the NFL. Atlanta wins at home in the dome and covers the three point spread.

Games Too Close To Call

Houston at Cincinnati: The Bengals consistently win games in the fourth quarter and the Texans are consistently inconsistent. Houston changes week to week from looking like a playoff team to looking like the Raiders.

Baltimore at Minnesota: The Ravens were being talked about as the most complete team in the NFL two weeks ago, but now they’ve lost their last two and go to the Metrodome to face the undefeated Vikings.

Giants at Saints: Game of the week. This might be a preview of the NFC championship game.

Carolina at Tampa Bay: Peeee UUUUU. What a stinker!

Kansas City at Washington: How are there so many terrible teams this year?

St. Louis at Jacksonville: Jack Del Rio needs to win this to keep his ass from feeling too hot.

Arizona at Seattle: A battle of the two most inconsistent teams in the league. I predict lots of mistakes, turnovers, and dropped passes.

Philadelphia at Oakland: This is an easy one to pick, but the Eagles are expected to win by 14. The spread’s too high for me when they’re on the road with a hurt Mcnab.

Tennessee at New England: I have a feeling the Titans will upset the Pats, but I can’t pick them because I’ve lost all the other times I picked Tennessee this year.

Bills at Jets: That New York defense will get a chance to renew their confidence against the Bills, but the way NY’s been playing and this being a big rivalry I can’t pick the Jets to cover the 10 point spread.

Denver at San Diego: This is the perfect chance for the Chargers to get back into contention in the AFC West division race. It’s an even better chance for the Broncos to knock San Diego’s division winning hopes down the drain. Denver is 5-0 and still getting no respect, SD’s picked to win by 3.

College Football Predictions

Picking Spread: 9-12

Picking Winners: 12-9

#5Boise State (5-0) at Tulsa (4-1): Sure Tulsa’s 4-1 but the only decent team they played this year was at Oklahoma in a 45-0 whooping. Boise beat #13 Oregon by 11 and won all their other games by double digits so there’s no reason they won’t cover the nine point spread tonight even on the road.

#3 Texas (5-0) vs. #20 Oklahoma (3-2): Texas will handle Oklahoma easily. Bradford’s back for the Sooners but who knows how healthy he is at this point. The Longhorns have a national championship to play for and Oklahoma’s season is a lost cause now that there aren’t any national title hopes. Take Texas by four.

Northwestern (4-2) at Michigan State (3-3): Every game except the first games played for each of these teams has been close. I think Michigan State will win because they’re at home, but they won’t cover the 14 point spread.

#4 Virginia Tech (5-1) at #19 Georgia Tech (5-1): Virginia Tech’s one of the best and complete teams in the nation. Their only loss came in the first game of the year (34-24) against #2 Alabama, who a lot of experts are calling the best team in the nation. Georgia Tech’s defense and passing attack are flawed. This should be a good conference game, but I’d take VT to cover the three point spread and solidify themselves as the best one loss team.

Great Matchups, Too Close To Call

#8Cincinnati (5-0)at #21South Florida(5-0): Someone’s got to lose. USF’s starting quarterback is injured, but they’re at home and the Bulls defense is great. The two best teams in the Big East are in the spot light Thursday night.

#11 Iowa (6-0) at Wisconsin (5-1): Somehow Wisconsin is picked to win by two and a half. Iowa gets no respect, even after beating Penn State.

#6 USC (4-1) at #25 Notre Dame (4-1): Charlie Weis can push that hot seat all the way across the room if the Fighting Irish find a way to win.

Arkansas (3-2) at #1 Florida (5-0): Arkansas offense is one of the best in the country. Alabama beat Arkansas 35-7 at home earlier this year. The way Florida plays on defense and the outcome of this game will determine whether the Gators will remain number one or if Alabama can pass them once the BCS standings come out.

Season Spreads: 36-25

Picking Winners: 3-0

Season Winners: 45-16

What I Learned This Week

- The NFL is filled with teams that are either great, should be great but have struggled in areas, or terrible.

- Eli Manning and Matt Hasselbeck are the two most under rated players in the league.

- Matt Ryan is a legend in the making. I don’t think a single Atlanta fan misses Michael Vick.

- Miami’s offense is tough and runs the ball hard. Mix that with Chad Henne playing the way he did on MNF and the Dolphins, along with their all around talented defense could make a run at winning the AFC East.

- The Jets defense and Mark Sanchez get worse each week.

- Tom Brady and his receivers are not on the same page.

- Josh McDaniels’ philosophy paid off. The Broncos management really knows how to pick the right young coaches, just like Pittsburgh.

- And I’ll end this week off with……. Dre Bly making one of most stupid plays in NFL history by intercepting a pass and high stepping half way towards the end zone just to get caught from behind and fumble the ball away as the other team recovers. Not only that, but his team was down 25 points! Take a look…

What I Learned This Week

- Florida and Alabama are on a collision course for the SEC championship game. Winner goes to the national title game.

- Nebraska is the most under rated team in the country. They’re a one point loss away at Virginia Tech from being undefeated and ranked in the top five.

- Lane Kiffin has Tennessee on the right track. He must be happy to be out of the Oakland Raider organization.

- Ole Miss’ Jevan Snead has crumbled under the national spotlight and NFL quarterback prospect hype.

- A Boise State vs. Oregon rematch in a bowl game could happen. That would be great. Bring LeGarrette Blount back for that one!

- If you look at FSU’s remaining schedule they have a real chance of losing all the rest of their games. Let the Bobby Bowden controversy continue!

Baseball Season Should Be Back, Back, Back, Gone By Now

Why is the baseball season not back, back, back gone yet?

No one cares about baseball once football season starts. On that note, no one really cares about baseball even before football season starts let alone when MLB has to compete with the NFL.

Baseball is a situational type game so the commissioner and people in charge of baseball should be able to figure out the situation baseball faces now and fix it. There’s no need for signs from coaches on what to do, it’s pretty obvious.

I’m a big baseball fan but the season is dragged out longer than a drag bunt. Everyone can see what’s coming and who will make the playoffs usually well before the season ends.

Think back during this season at the beginning of August. Which teams were making the playoffs then? The Yankees, Red Sox, Angels, and Tigers in the AL and the Phillies, Dodgers, Rockies, and Cardinals in the NL. So we waited all the way until the end of September to decide what had already been determined nearly two months prior. The only difference is the Twins made the playoffs, but if the season ended earlier they probably would have made their strong surge sooner.

All those extra games tune me out and when most of them have no meaning it doesn’t make watching interesting. Why can’t there be 100 games instead of 162? There used to be less games played in Babe Ruth’s era why can’t that happen now? During a day in age when revenue drives everything you would think Major League Baseball would do all it can to make people show up and their ratings go up.

Now we’re left with games getting snowed out, like the Philadelphia at Colorado game. No one wants to play baseball in the cold and no one wants to watch baseball being played in the cold, either! That’s football weather!

Shorten the season, expand the playoffs to six teams, and schedule the season so the World Series ends on Labor Day weekend. That way no other sports will be going on besides preseason football so more people will watch America’s past time and bring it to the present day.

NFL Predictions

Picking Spreads: 33-25

Picking Winners: 42-16

Minnesota at St. Louis: Take Minnesota and the 10 point spread. The Vikings beat San Francisco two weeks ago and the 49ers just rammed the Rams last week 35-0.

Houston at Arizona: I’m taking the Cardinals at home covering the six point spread. This will be a game with a lot of offense and very little defense. Arizona will show up this week and show off for their home fans.

Indianapolis at Tennessee: The Colts will deliver the knockout blow to the Titans season Sunday night. Peyton’s in his prime and playing some of the best ball of his career and Tennessee’s defense has disappeared. Even though this is a division game and the Colts are on the road I still pick Indy to easily cover the four point spread.

Reasons I’m Not Picking the Other Games

Dallas at Kansas City: Tony Romo and the Cowboys should cover the eight point spread but they’re so inconsistent who knows what can happen at one of the toughest places to play in the league, Arrowhead Stadium.

Washington at Carolina: Which team will play even worse than normal? That’s what this one will come down to.

Tampa Bay at Philadelphia: The Eagles need to score 16 to cover the spread. It’s a possibility, but a spread that high in the NFL is never a safe bet.

Oakland at NY Giants: New York has to win by 15 to cover the spread and with Eli hurt that might not happen. Oakland’s terrible, but the spread’s too high for my liking.

Cleveland at Buffalo: Another stink fest. These teams are so bad neither can be considered a winner no matter who comes out on top.

Cincinnati at Baltimore: Every game the Bengals have played this year has come down to the last couple minutes to decide. The Ravens could cover the spread winning by nine because of their newly discovered offensive fire power led by the arm of Joe Flacco, but Cincinnati can never be counted out this season.

Pittsburgh at Detroit: The Steelers by 11 on the road is too high for me to take, especially the way they’re defense has been letting teams back in the game late.

Atlanta at San Francisco: One of the better games of the week. Too close to call.

New England at Denver: The Broncos can prove to everyone they’re for real this week by at least putting up a fight against the Pats.

Jacksonville at Seattle: Who cares? A study showed the Jaguars are the least popular team in the league and Seattle isn’t very far ahead.

NY Jets at Miami: They really had a couple of great games the last two weeks on Monday Night Football. It doesn’t get much better than the obnoxious Jet fans in Miami, under the lights, in a heated rivalry that can’t possibly have a hypothesized prediction.
