College Football Predictions

Beware of the blow out spreads this week.

Northern Illinois at Purdue; Take the 12 point spread for Purdue. NIU was stomped on last week 41-7 by Western Illinois. Both teams are 1-1 but Purdue's lost came in Oregon 38-36. The Boilermakers know how to put up points and aren't scared to run up the score.

Temple at Penn State; Do not take the 30 point spread. The Nittany Lions haven't proven they can put up a lot of points on an opponent yet this year. Last week they didn't cover their 28 point spread and I don't expect them to this week either. No upset, but no covering the spread.

California at Minnesota; Take the 13 point spread. The Golden Bears already won big twice this season and I don't think Golden Gophers are any match for Golden Bears.

Tennessee at Florida; Normally in a rivalry game you should never take the huge spread, but i would take the 30 points for Florida here. Not only are the Gators great, but the Volunteers are terrible and Lane Kiffin's preseason trash talk isn't going to help the cause. Tennessee has a solid defense with Lane's mastermind father as the coordinator, but that Florida defense will bring in a couple scores not to mention their special teams that Urban Meyer focuses on making them oh so special.

USC at Washington; Here's a rivalry where you should not take the spread. The Trojans are picked to win by 19, but Washington has two coaches that use to be on USC's staff. Add that with the Trojans starting quarterback being hurt, their star receiver out, and being on the road equals pulling out the win but not covering the 19 point spread.

Ohio State at Toledo; The Buckeyes couldn't blow out Navy and lost to USC. They're picked to win by 21 today, but Toledo has a high powered offense. OSU will win, but that spreads too high.

Games to Watch

These games are too close to call but will be fun match ups.

East Carolina at North Carolina; UNC nearly lost last week at Connecticut and now they're in a cross town rivalry game against a talented ECU team looking to knock the Tar Heels out of the top 25.

Boston College at Clemson; BC won two blow outs and Clemson lost by a field goal against Georgia Tech. Should be a great ACC matchup.

Nebraska at Virginia Tech; I haven't got a chance to see either team play so I didn't want to pick but this looks like the game of the day.

Utah at Oregon; Oregon pulled out a victory against Purdue last week and now look to take out their first week loss against Boise State and get back into the top 25 by thrashing ranked Utah. This will be a well played contest.

Michigan State at Notre Dame; This is the rebound game for both teams. The Fighting Irish need this win to save Charlie Weis' job after losing to Michigan last week. The Spartans look to come back strong after losing to Central Michigan.

Navy at Pittsburgh; Navy played OSU tough and looks to show it was no fluke in Pittsburgh.

Florida State at BYU; FSU lost in the last second to UM then nearly lost to an FBS team last week. They have a chance to redeem their season by defeating #7 BYU. The Seminoles won't go down without a fight.

Texas Tech at Texas; The Longhorns are picked by 18 and I think that's too high against Texas Tech. It's a rivalry game and the Red Raiders are a high powered offense. I like Texas but don't want to pick the spread because I haven't seen TTU play yet this season.
